Eric Prydz teams up with Spotify for 150 Track Playlist

One of electronic music’s most prolific entities, Eric Prydz somehow finds time to helm two labels, several pseudonyms in as many genres, and craft groundbreaking new live shows. It was to the collective delight of the progressive house and dance music communities at large when the icon finally released Opus, his first issue under his own name and perhaps his finest offering to date.

In honor of the producer’s staggering output, Spotify and Prydz have collaborated on an in-depth exploration of the contextual setting for Opus. The effort comes in the form of a playlist that includes more than 150 songs spanning his storied 15 year career and several of his pseudonyms like Cirez D and Pryda.

In addition to collaboratively choosing the tracks included, Prydz and Spotify have also released pieces of a studio interview that took place in the streaming giant’s New York offices. The interview clips, placed sporadically through the list, cover everything from his early days in London and how he stays so consistent to the implications of streaming music.

“Musically, I keep to myself,” says Prydz in one aside. “I do music that excites me… I don’t listen to trends, I kind of just do my own thing.”

In another, Prydz gets candid about his process, saying: “I don’t necessarily make music for the purpose of releasing as records. I make music to play at my live sets.”

Ultimately, the new playlist is a testament to the Swedish producer’s unparalleled output. With 150 tracks — all originals — Prydz has truly fostered one of the most admirable discographies in dance music.

The playlist and interview are currently available to stream on Spotify.
