All the way from Nottingham, United Kingdom, Alter just dropped his latest single, Coast, an extraordinary mix of dreamy and intimate vibes perfect for your mind and your soul.
Premiered by the iconic Melodic Deep network, Coast is an extraordinary production by Alter, part of the 2-track EP with Requiem. The tune marks the second release in 2021 as well as the second tune under the Alter alias. Launched this year, the Alter project focuses on a stripped-back sound, with melody and emotion taking priority.
Starting with Coast, the 2-track EP features a clean and minimal beat paired with a neat one-note bassline. When the first plucked melody kicks in you will be teleported into a new world where emotional soundscapes, intimate cinematic vibrations, and a soulful and faithful main theme will guide you through space and time. Set against driving bass stabs Alter gradually eases the listener into light and lush pads which provide the bed for a meandering melody that never settles or repeats. The juxtaposition of the rigid groove and improvised harmonics gives a sense of perpetual motion allowing the listener to pick up the details along the way.
On a different note, Requiem goes even deeper and in some cases, dark. The faithful long and cinematic lines work as support for the synth-driven main theme. Definitely a change of pace from the previous one, where the melodic and feeling-good harmonies unfold into profound and mysterious arrangements. The rumbling bassline set beneath a swirling melody, Requiem serves as a deconstructed counterpart to Coast. Throughout the course of the track, several layers of texture are amassed and begin to envelop the listener as they culminate in a bright crescendo before slowly drifting into the ether.
