Grandbrothers, a German-Swiss duo, has unveiled their new album on Wednesday, February 8th on City Slang. The album is a follow-up of All the Unknown which was released in 2021. The release date for Late Reflections is slated for April 14. The first single is titled “Infinite.”
Peter Füssenich, the master builder and architect of the Cologne Cathedral, approached German-Turkish musician Erol Sarp and Swiss engineer/software designer Lukas Vogel in 2019 about giving a concert at the famous landmark. The ceremony on the nave eventually took place last year as part of a commemoration marking the 700th anniversary of the dedication of the eastern (and oldest) half of the church.
More precisely, the music on Late Reflections was composed especially for the place where they performed it. In the end, it was also recorded there, serving as the studio’s background. The phrase “early reflections” refers to the first reflections one hears from the walls around them, whereas “late reflections” are more dispersed and delayed. All sounds in this composition originate from the grand piano before being further processed. The staccato piano notes on this highly collaborative album may be heard reverberating throughout the space.
