third party release record interview

Let’s Talk About: Third Party

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Building a loyal and fanatical fan-base through their richly distinct and unique progressive sound, few acts in the electronic dance music scene can quite command the same level of respect and attention as British pair, Third Party.

Made up of Jonnie Macaire and Harry Bass, the UK producers are best known for their incredible live productions, and euphoric tracks, including most recent studio album ‘HOPE’; widely regarded as one of the finest dance productions of recent generations. Starting their careers with remix duties for the likes of Tiësto and Swedish House Mafia, the latter soon invited the Essex duo to play at their iconic Masquerade Motel show in Miami, with a further performance at their ‘One Night Only’ event at Alexandra Palace.

Following productions on Steve Angello’s SIZE Records, Third Party soon began to launch music under their own ‘Release’ label, with the imprint since hosting several showcase evenings at the likes of London’s iconic Ministry of Sound club, with upcoming talents like Corey James, Will K, Sentinel, and Pete K all releasing tracks on the label.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Third Party sat down with The Groove Cartel for an interview to discuss their past, present and future.

First up, can you please introduce yourself?” open=”true”]Hello, hello… we are Harry and Jonnie from Third Party[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”When did you start producing music, and what inspired you to do that?” open=”true”]We both shared a love of music in high school and from there we decided to move to a music college to study music production and engineering.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Which artists influenced you the most?” open=”true”]Eric Prydz, Steve Angello, Kanye West and Moby.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”You grew up as part of the Size Records family, releasing your early productions “Duel” and “Release”. What do you remember about those years, and how did Steve Angello influence you?” open=”true”]Those years where the scariest but the best – we had no exact direction, no management – just had fun and made whatever music we were feeling in the studio.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Your latest single is “Midnight”, out on July 6th. How did you guys approach to this production? I can hear an 80’s vibe that is quite common in your music, isn’t it?” open=”true”]We love looking for old samples – especially 80s soul/disco samples…Jonnie found the midnight sample a while back and as soon as we put it over Harry’s big 80’s sounding chords it just glued and we knew we were onto something.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Your Release label, apart from being the platform through which releasing your music, also welcomes other artists. When did you decide to go independent, and what is the work behind a record label?” open=”true”]We decided to set up our own label and go independent when we realised we had quite a niche sound which wasn’t really the radio or hype sound and thought that our label could be the direct place fans can go to hear our sort of vibe and a similar vibe from artists we also admire and support on the label.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Let’s talk about your “LIIIVE” show: how did the project born? And what was your impression during the first shows in Liverpool and Korea?” open=”true”]It was lots and lots of work and preparation that went into the show. Lots of hours in the studio with the new LIIIVE equipment and lots of hours from spent with our management getting everything perfect for the night in Liverpool. When the day finally came we couldn’t have asked for a better night – everything thing ran smoothly and the response was amazing. We’re always trying to test ourselves and show fans something new and we really felt the love on the night all around us – which is all we could ever ask for! Then after having done this in our own backyard, Korea was definitely another new experience but the Ultra team were amazing and really helped us to create an amazing production for the Korean fans – who are definitely one of the best, most energetic fans in the world.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”You guys remained true to your pure Progressive style throughout the years: how do you feel about many artists radically changing their music since a specific genre is not “cool” enough?” open=”true”]We completely understand why artists do it – it’s a tough, tough industry and people have to make a living. And jumping ship definitely seems like the quickest route to being ‘successful’ in the short term. For us – it’s just never appealed… We’ve never done this to be millionares. We put everything back into our art and craft and we enjoy doing it with no complaints. It would definitely be frustrating to some artists when they see certain artists cashing in and taking the easy route while they’re working away hard in the studio – but we really do just concentrate on us and our happiness and content with what we are doing each day so it never turns into a job. We have the best ‘job’ in the world and never want to lose that feeling.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”If you could choose any artist for a collaboration, who would you pick?” open=”true”]Chris Martin from Coldplay – we love working with vocals and for us he’s one of the best in the world, especially when it comes to suiting our style.[/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_message style=”square” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-handshake-o”]Thanks to Jonnie, Harry, and their manager Alfie for the time dedicated to us.[/vc_message][/vc_column][/vc_row]
