The main track off the new EP, Hypna, by London-based producer and composer kisakdee, is a powerful, emotive, and melodic piece of beat-driven electronica.

kiskadee is the moniker of Jack Chown, a producer and composer based in London who has previously collaborated with artists such as Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Tycho Jones, and worked as an engineer for the likes of Jessie Ware, M.I.A and HAELOS. As kiskadee, he creates deeply moving electronic music, gathering sounds from his environment and translating them into soundscapes that are both sad and ultimately uplifting and highly connected to his own experiences.

In addition to conveying a cool vibe, his new track, Hypna, also anticipates the club-focused electronica he’ll be releasing later this year. It is an emotive blend of urgent beats and gathering soundscapes.

I started the kiskadee project in those first weeks of lockdown, making bittersweet beats and electronic soundscapes from voice notes friends and family sent me. As we’ve been able to dance together again, I’ve been keen to blend these melodic sounds with more club-focused electronica as the project moves into its next phase.

It’s been a tricky but incredibly exciting and fulfilling process—and anyway, as the Alan Watts quote says in the middle of ‘Hypna’: “What is the essential element in the creative is the mysterious, the trouble is this if we found out a method to teach creativity, it would no longer be of interest.” -says kisakdee to Complex UK

The first singles from kisakdee appeared in 2021, and Cali Roll, maybe his most well-known song to date, followed in early 2022. Described as “a twinkling piece of sun-kissed electronica” by Clash Magazine, kiskadee creates emotive, uplifting dance music comparable to the likes of Bonobo, Floating Points and Daphni.

The lead track from kiskadee’s upcoming Believe In Love EP, Hypna, is scheduled for release on March 31, 2023.
