NTO has been releasing new tracks since last year, each one bringing him one step closer to his album, like diving stages. Also, his covers evolve according to each step, it’s like diving into an unknown land, that gradually and slowly reveals the theme of the album: «APNEA». Stream and download here.
Each single offers an unexpected collaboration opportunity: Meute was asked to cover “Zig Zag,” Sofiane Pamart reappropriated “Invisible” with her piano, and Paul Kalkbrenner – the artist who gave NTO his techno vocation – gave him the honor of an already cult remix.
A meeting with Arthur Guérin, the Freediving World Champion, inspired the album APNEA. As they spoke, they found similarities between his diving and daily training, and the way he makes music: They both need to be totally immersed, this allows them to feel close to their feelings and be completely cut off from the world.
I have enjoyed the process of composing so much. The way I worked this time was way less isolated than usual, and I do feel that I made a lot of progress. This debut album is also a little bit of my family’s history. Some songs and extracts wink affectionately at the people I love. – NTO
NTO spent nearly two years creating and finalizing Apnea, which is a collection of personal feelings, memories, and milestones.
For the first time, NTO has created a long format and invited his friends: French 79 from Marseille, Monolink from Berlin, and through him, the new Berlin scene, and finally Tricky, a major musical influence or an abyssal duo that is almost out of time.
“Beyond Control” is from NTO’s upcoming album, which is a lovely collection of melodic compositions paired with NTO’s ability to make a track feel both melancholic and uplifting.
