Audio Obscura turns Bijlmerbajes prison in a proper underground club

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While once a sinister location, for three nights Audio Obscura is transforming the Bijlmerbajes prison into an environment of joy, inclusivity, and love for electronic music, a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed!

Opened in 1978, Bijlmerbajes was a prison complex in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, near the Amsterdam Amstel railway station. The complex consists of 6 towers with small divisions connected by a tunnel through the prison. In a recent post by BBC, David Gianotten explains that the prison in the years became too big for the numbers of people inside it; there were too few prisoners compared to the capacity and it was permanently closed in June 2016.

In 2017, OMA, an international practice operating within the traditional boundaries of architecture and urbanism, started to work on a project of redeveloping the area with the goal of turning it into a residential area, complete of schools, hotels, a museum, restaurants, and bars. The full project is available via this link.

Audio Obscura turns Bijlmerbajes prison in a proper underground club during Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE).

It’s in this context that takes over Audio Obscura, described by one of the founders in an interview for The School Of House: “Our initial idea was to stage contemporary musicians in classical buildings like concert halls”. They have successfully hosted parties in Amsterdam Central Station as well as at the Loft on A’DAM Tower and a lot more stunning locations but, during this year Amsterdam Dance Event Audio Obscura is pushing the boundaries.

From Thursday, October 18th to Saturday, October 20th they will turn the Bijlmerbajes prison into a proper underground club with three exclusive parties. On Thursday Audio Obscura welcomes Seth Troxler and Honey Dijon while Friday Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe label will take control of the party. The massive schedule will close Saturday with Nina Kraviz.

All three events are completely sold out and there won’t be a sale at the doors but, if you’re like, you can find some tickets left on the secondary market.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
