Dance Culture Gets its Very Own Television Network With EDMtv
As if we needed any more proof of dance music’s growing dominance in the US cultural zeitgeist, news has emerged that the dancefloor is now being awarded its own TV network. Described as an “EDM-centric” station, EDMtv will launch later this month, available to dance fans across the country via satellite television provider DirecTV.
The founders of EDMtv say it’s been in the making for three years. They confirm that some of the content currently being worked on in their Los Angeles studio includes scripted shows, documentaries, broadcast news, and coverage of the parties themselves.
“We want to always embody the creative spirit that dance music provides to fans and to document and positively showcase everything that makes this industry so amazing,” EDMtv founder Matt Bolton said in a statement this week. “The music is just the start. The people, the places, the deals, the real stories that are alive in the scene is what we’re after… It really is an honor to become the first network ever to do content that is specific to electronic music and the culture it nourishes.”
EDMtv also says it’s working on additional distribution channels throughout the year that should further extend the network’s reach across the US. It’s all set to launch on March 14 during the Miami Winter Conference, and you can watch a video featuring some fairly high-profile artist endorsements below.
