‘Imitations Of Life EP’ marks the return of Eagles & Butterflies on Innervisions
‘Hypnotic’ and ‘delicate’ are the first adjectives that come to mind when listening to Eagles & Butterflies “Imitations Of Life”, but this Ep is so much more.
The charmed ascent of Eagles & Butterflies, and his intertwined fate with Innervisions, reaches its most fully-realized moment. From his acclaimed Secret Weapons appearances (whose latest edition dropped earlier this year) – “The Story That Never Ends” in 2015, and 2016’s “X” – the British producer has further refined his layered, complex sound world, and set the underground ablaze with a series of masterful sketches.
In his own words, the invitation to create an Essential Mix for the 25th anniversary year of Pete Tong’s iconic BBC Radio 1 show was “something you dream of one day… when you start your path in electronic music.” To honor the significance of the request Eagles & Butterflies prepared a bespoke mix of 25 unreleased compositions in summer 2018, titled Imitations Of Life. The poised, episodic flow of the mix and the assuredness of its chilled tempos and shifting moods cemented the arrival of this rising star.
Âme’s Kristian Beyer and Dixon were two of Imitations Of Life’s loudest advocates; now three of their favorite sketches have been completed and mixed. From the light-filled cosmic interventions of “Sketch 7,” executed with precision, to flitting melodic tensions and grounded deepness in “Sketch 17”, and the epic slow tease of the introductory “Sketch 1”, the many aspects of the Eagles & Butterflies vision are finally in full view. Already feted by the press, mentored by John Digweed, and now formalizing a kinship with the Innervisions flock, Eagles & Butterflies is set to soar even higher still.
