Awakenings announce that Drumcode Festival won’t take place in 2020
Because of the impossibility to achieve the desired sound level, Awakenings can't anymore operate Drumcode Festival in the area.
Bad news for techno lovers as Drumcode Festival won’t take place in 2020, Awakenings reported.
After a massive lineup announcement for Awakenings Festival this summer and two out of four sold-out parties during Easter holidays, the iconic Amsterdam event organizer Awakenings was ready to announce Drumcode Festival. Unfortunately, NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam, the location historically used to deliver the festival is no more available.
NDSM Wharf is receiving major urban developments that have brought a reduction of the event planned in the area. New apartments are being built on the area and, because of the impossibility to achieve the desired sound level, Awakenings can’t anymore operate Drumcode Festival in the area.
About NDSM area
A former shipyard located on the banks of the River IJ in Amsterdam Noord, the NDSM Wharf has blossomed into an enormous cultural hotspot in recent years with a vibrant artist community and an ever-expanding variety of bars and restaurants.
The festival has tried to find another solution, looking for a new area to deliver the beloved Drumcode festival with no luck.
However, despite this bad news, Adam Beyer and Drumcode will be at Awakenings Festival 2020, a one-day outdoor event in Amsterdam.
Drumcode Festival 2020 full statement
Drumcode Festival will not be returning to the NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam in 2020. Major urban planning developments on the NDSM Wharf have meant that all event activity is being reduced over the next few years, therefore, it is not possible for us to continue operating Drumcode Festival on that site.
Apartments are currently being built at the NDSM making it no longer possible to achieve the desired sound level.
Since becoming aware of this development we have been looking for a new site but have not found one that enables us to deliver Drumcode Festival in the same format as the previous two years.
