As a follow-up to last year’s outstanding Mozar EP, Jos & Eli return to Watergate for their second outing with renowned vocalist Alex Clare.
The Israeli duo has developed their own sound, creating beautiful dancefloor creations with chunky percussion and sonic inflections from their homeland. They’re at their most seductive on the ‘Mayhem‘ EP.
‘Inner Sky‘ is defined by flowering synths that bloom and recede in giddying formations, accompanied by a heady array of noises that buzz in the background, all while maintaining a steady groove. Stephan Jolk, the Afterlife wunderkind, is enlisted to remix Jos & Eli’s original, adding swells of dreamy melody and subtle washes of Balearic.
Alex Clare, whose single “Too Close” was nominated for a BRIT award in 2011, graces the EP with his vocals on the track “Mistake.” It’s a cut big on vibes that begs to be played at a dusty festival as the sun sets over the horizon, driven by a gutsy guitar-driven bottom end that gives the composition a distinct Americana vibe. The four-track package is completed by the title track, ‘Mayhem,’ which features a constant synapse-tickling synth throughout.
