Swedish talent, Kestis Gabriel, just released a brand new three-track EP called ‘Himmelen’. From a cinematic intro to the original one, to arrive at the electro-infused dub mix by Storgards, the EP is a must listen.

The Baltic region and Sweden in particular, has always been a land of incredible talents when it comes to electronic music. This is the case Kestis Gabriel, South Africa born and Swedish naturalized. His brand new single, ‘Himmelen’ is out now on VOID Records and it’s a real proof of his talent.

Featuring a native Swedish vocal, the release is an actual EP. Kicking off with a super soft and relaxing intro mix, completely piano-driven, the EP continues with the original mix ‘Himmelen’. The track includes rolling and bouncing percussions filled with a great dose of deep vibes. Last but not least we have the Storgards dub mix. The unmistakable electronic vibes of the Swedish talent inject a great dose of energy into the track. Perfect for intimate underground club or for a late night relax listening session, ‘Himmelen’ is another wonderful release for the Swedish based label.

Because of the relative-unknown artists, we have decided to reach out Kestis Gabriel. We’ve asked some questions about the record, the production process, his future plans and even more.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1544190474845{background-color: #eaeaea !important;}”][vc_toggle title=”Hi Kestis, would you like to introduce yourself first?” open=”true”]

Hey, thanks for having me! I’m a producer and multi-instrumentalist from South Africa/Sweden. Growing up, the deep house culture had a big influence on me – I started producing music and DJing at school events when I was 13. I moved to Sweden to study music a couple of years later where I became involved in the folk music scene and started exploring jazz and improvisation. In 2017 I took a gap year from college to focus on my own music and make some crazy sounds.

‘Himmelen’ started forming after I got the chance to DJ at a rave that my friends hosted. It was winter and everyone was just fed up with the cold and dark, so they wanted to dance. I hadn’t touched the decks for almost two years; at that time I was in the deep end of music education trying to wrap my head around music theory, odd time signatures, and other weird stuff. It was so refreshing to just bring it back to where it all began, and that event served as perfect inspiration for the song.

I recorded the main vocals quite early in the process; the Swedish lyrics (roughly translated) tell the narrative of how lost we are, but it’s not all bad because we’re lost together. “We don’t know where we’re going, but at least we’re dancing in the right direction. Winter will turn to spring; friendship is born from solitude, and even the darkest nights are followed by sunrise.”

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”You’ve been on stage several times for live shows. How do you describe the feeling between playing music live for a crowd and finishing your own music in the studio? Are they two completely different worlds or are there common things?” open=”true”]

I would say they’re different. Playing gigs is exhilarating and exhausting, whereas developing an idea in the studio is meditative and almost therapeutic. The studio is where I make my energy. The stage is where I spend it.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What do we have to expect from you in the future?” open=”true”]

I’m releasing a handful of singles and music videos at the beginning of 2019, and those will be followed by my debut album later on in the year. It’s been a wild ride thus far, so I trust it will stay that way!
