Today, after weeks of rumors and teasing, Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd collaboration Moth To A Flame is out. The record marks the third release since the trio returned in 2021.

Moth To A Flame follows the new musical style the trio is exploring since the return. More radio-friendly vibes, soft and intimate vocals, and catchy but also relaxing in a way percussions. The tune features the extraordinary vocal of Abel Makkonen Tesfaye aka The Weeknd. Moth To A Flame starts with the snipped reproduced for the first time during the MTV EMAs.

Even if most of the track is about The Weeknd’s vocal, you’ll have the chance to hear Swedish House Mafia signature sound at the very end where the instrumental take the lead. The chords are pure and precise and you can clearly feel all the elements of it. The threatening synth sounds much like a continuation of the singer’s highly successful After Hours.

With the release of the track, at midnight on Spotify, comes also an official music video. Like the previous one, it’s directed by Alexander Wessely. He’s also in charge of the creative direction of the whole aesthetic of the trio, since the return this year. You can feel the dark and mysterious vibes on all its work, including the cover of Moth To A Flame. The foreground of The Weeknd, under a blue/dark green light with the three stars reflected on the sunglasses, clearly represents Swedish House Mafia.

The collaboration and the future plans of the Swedish House Mafia.

This collaboration was never out of the blue. Rumors have been started to circulate a month ago, fueled by an interview released only some weeks ago. The officialization came during the MTV EMAs with a very short video. A few days ago, a longer 10 seconds snipped surfaced online. Another thing to take into account is that Swedish House Mafia is currently managed by Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, the Weeknd’s long-time manager.

Moth To A Flame is the latest of a series of new music and big announcements. Since their return, the Swedish trio released two new tunes, they announced an album, and now, they’re teasing a world arena tour. Swedish House Mafia will also headline Coachella 2022; they’re the first artist to be announced.

Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd Moth To A Flame is available now on Spotify, Apple Music and on all your favorite music store and streaming platforms here. (The record may be not yet released on your time zone; if so, you most likely need to wait until midnight).
