Lupa, a wolf disguised as a woman, dares to be different. The creative reinvents the wheel of traditional club sound with his own brand of new wave techno. Lupa’s sound is all-encompassing gritty darkness, influenced by Depeche Mode and the Talking Heads. The now-22-year-old artist, who creates music and art with the viewer in mind, got her start in the UK underground music scene before deciding to focus on DJing and production full-time.

I was once asked what motivates me to create music and at the time I had no idea how to answer it. I love music for the sake of art itself, but there was something else deep inside that pushed me even further. When I’m not working on music or art, I’m thinking about it constantly and it’s usually my first waking thought. The only thing I have is this relentless motivation for self-expression and it’s the only thing I need. This EP represents that fierce, undefinable feeling in my gut, an insatiable hunger. – Lupa

Lupa’s Insatiable sits at the helm of eerie and emotive, inviting listeners on a journey into the darkest corners of the mind. With their masterful fusions of old-school trance and innovative techno embellishments, lead singles “For The Ride” and “Darkness” led the charge. “The Night” and “Icarus,” two contrasting but complementary feats, are among Insatiable’s newest additions. “Icarus” is a colossal piece of industrial techno with a typical larger-than-life kick.

The name comes from one of my favorite stories in Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses,’ the story itself is about a man who goes against the way of nature and the Gods and in return is punished. – Lupa

Still incorporating industrial elements, “The Night” delivers additional robust, melodic vocal flair. Airy vocal performances are juxtaposed against veracious synth work in this nostalgia-inducing single.

Lupa’s debut EP Insatiable is out now on all platforms via mau5trap, and it’s a stirring amalgamation of a lifetime’s worth of sonic influence.

About the artist: Lupa

Elizabeth Small (Lupa) is a 22-year-old San Francisco Bay Area-based new wave techno producer and DJ. She spent a summer studying architecture in the United Kingdom while at Arizona State University, where she discovered London’s underground techno scene. This sparked a new interest in dance music, and the Lupa project was born in 2019. Lupa’s creator spent hours a day honing her craft in order to create a long-lasting music brand that prioritized the viewers’ experience. From music production to graphic design, to video editing, to DJing, the Lupa project evolves with time, always doing her best to bring the brand to life in new, innovative ways. Her music is meant to transport the listener into a dark, yet familiar world, with biting acid synths and vicious kicks. Lupa’s goal is to inspire and challenge her audience to think differently: to be the best they can be, and most importantly, to be wolves among sheep.
