When Dixon and Rockstar Games announced a collaborative residency at Pacha Ibiza this next Summer season, fans started wondering what the videogames giant could have brought into the already mystical musical experience that Steffen Berkhahn always provides. The first of twenty ‘Transmoderna’ shows kicked off yesterday, May 24th, and part of the bossman’s set has been streamed on Facebook, giving us the opportunity to have a look at one of the most hyped residencies of this Summer on the Isla. Acting as support were Innervisions‘ finest Trikk and ÂME (Kristian Beyer), and PVBLIC XCESS.
The show mainly focuses on a mix of rendered visuals provided by Rockstar and live performances, with dancers as protagonists. An impressive 3D model of Dixon made his appearance afterward, creating a unique atmosphere in the full-packed Pacha, with the help of lasers, strobe lights and mirrors, while a suspended abstract sculpture dominates the room.
The feedback that we got while watching the live stream, however, was different from what the crowd experienced on the dancefloor; we got a film direction and extra technology, in the form of a thermal camera, morphing technologies, a 3D analyzing camera, and more. This is where you can feel the presence of Rockstar behind the scenes, in creating an experience between real life and virtual reality, which is the aim heralded from the very beginning.
Music-wise, there’s really few to say: Dixon’s sets are always an assuredness. Blending together everything from Melodic House, Techno, Afro House, to MidTempo and DnB, the German maestro delivered a variegated, yet univocal and tidy performance, filled with plenty of juicy IDs as usual.
The next event is set for the 31st of May with Solomun as a special guest. Tickets available here.
