THE PLAYGROUND launches inagural Timeless Festival

THE PLAYGROUND is excited to announce the beginning of their first event in Cape Town, South Africa from March 10–12, 2023. The Timeless Festival will be held on Elandskloof Farm at the foothills of the Greyton mountain range.

The Playground has hosted events at London’s top venues and received numerous accolades from publications like The Guardian, Time Out, and NME Magazine, to name a few. DJ Mag referred to them as “One of London’s most audacious music forces,” and they have supported artists like Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, Crystal Fighters, Franz Ferdinand, FKJ, Pendulum, and Steve Aoki among others. The 3-day camping festival is set to bring some of the most influential and groundbreaking acts to one of the most idyllic settings in South Africa. The number of tickets is limited, so get earlybirds before they run out.

RÖYKSOPP – [DJ] After experimenting with various electronic music genres, a Norwegian electronic music duo from Troms was created. The band uses a variety of musical genres, such as ambient, house music, and synth-pop. Since their debut, the pair has received worldwide critical acclaim and commercial success. To date, Röyksopp has been nominated for two Grammy Awards, won seven Spellemannprisen awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums that have topped the charts in several countries, including four consecutive number-one albums in their native country.

[LIVE] BOOKA SHADE The Berlin-based pair, who are known as one of Europe’s most renowned electronic acts, has performed on stages including Coachella, Glastonbury, Rock Werchter, Red Rocks, and others while opening for Depeche Mode. Fast forward 20 years, 6 albums, and dozens of EPs later, the duo has become more than a household name.

[LIVE] CHRISTIAN LFFLER (First South African broadcast) The German deep-house producer specializes in isolating yet strangely relatable music that is emotional and melancholy. He has shared the stage with well-known artists like Son Lux, alt-J, Bonobo, The Glitch Mob, JUNGLE, and Nick Murphy (a.k.a. Chet Faker).

Sébastien Leger, a French house DJ and producer whose hits “Hit Girl,” “Hypnotized,” and “Aqualight” have become popular dance records played in clubs around Europe, will be performing the live performance for the first time in South Africa.

DOMINIK EULBERG: For more than 25 years, Dominik Eulberg, a musician from the Westerwald, has been active on the international music scene. In the interim, he has recorded more than a hundred albums. He has won various accolades for his musical compositions, including the German Record Critics’ Prize. Trade publications also named him Music Producer of the Year, and he consistently holds the top spots in the DJ category.

PARRA FOR CUVA – [LIVE] (First South African broadcast) The German producer has become well-known since the publication of his debut EP, “Fading Nights,” in May 2013. He is known for his slow, expertly produced, and melodic electronica.

DJ PIERRE – The legendary godfather of Acid House will be flying from Chicago to grace SA with his signature blend of squelching synths and forward-driving percussion. He founded the band Phuture, whose single “Acid Tracks” is frequently credited as the tune that gave the subgenre its name.

[LIVE] DEEP FOREST (First South African broadcast) With their famous anthem “Sweet Lullaby,” the band became a viral success throughout the ’90s. Their production style catapulted them into the global scene, where their corresponding first album achieved gold, platinum, and double-platinum status in multiple nations. With Daft Punk as their sole collaborators, Deep Forest became the first French group to jointly receive the prestigious Grammy Award for their album Boheme. Eric Mouquet innovated Deep Forest’s distinct ethnic-driven sound and is one of the few unique pioneers of electronic music, who defined world music and shaped the all-new genre ethnic-electronica.

SUN EL MUSICIAN – Sun-El Musician is a one-of-a-kind South African producer, who is known and loved country-wide for his unique sound. The Afro-house sound movement that Sun-El Musician started is well-known.

Culoe De Song’s music career began in early 2007 when his song “100 Zulu Warriors” was included on Black Coffee’s second album, Have Another One. Culoe De Song was born in the northern regions of South Africa’s east coast.

A South African house DJ and producer is known as CAIIRO. His songs’ emotional & rhythmic components have taken him around the globe. He has worked with renowned artists such as Black Motion, Da Capo, Msaki, and Djeff to name a few.

Enoo Napa, who is currently ranked as the top Afro House artist on Traxsource, has remixed songs for artists like Black Coffee, N’dinga Gaba, Mi Casa, Oscar P, King Sfiso, and DJ Merlon. He also continues to release heavy, raw afro-infused electronic music on a number of well-known international labels.

KID FONQUE- The DJ/producer, label owner, promoter and National radio host has become a vital part of South African electronic music and club culture over the last 20 years. Bass, Broken Beats, Bossa Nova, Hip Hop, and all hues of House are all represented in Fonque’s musical spectrum.

JULLIAN GOMES – Jullian Gomes was brought up listening to Soul, Latin and Kwaito, before discovering House music at the tender age of eight. His career has only gone up since his first work in 2003, and along with it, his love for production and skill set expanded significantly.

JAZZUELLE – The Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp Alumni inaugurated the first-ever Sonar Festival in Johannesburg. They have also appeared at events like the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Beatport’s Wet Deck Annual Party in Barcelona, and the Get Physical Music presentation at City Hall (Barcelona). One of the most reliable South African producers, Jazzuelle has had a wide range of releases as early as 2010.

REINHARDT BUHR [LIVE] records his Spanish guitar, electric cello, electronic drums, and Australian didgeridoos using a live looping pedal, constructing layers upon layers until it seems like you are listening to a large musical orchestra and producing rhythms and vibes that make you feel restless.
