David Castellani returns on his won imprint, Noetic, with an impressive release Electrochemical EP including a remix by Matrixxman.

In October, Italian modular synthesist David Castellani has released the final installment of his Noetic label’s introductory EPs. Electrochemical EP” is Castellani’s most dynamic and impactful release to date, and it features a rework from Matrixxman, a legendary US producer. The release came after his Solaris EP in September.

Electrochemical” is the first to take the stage. The record begins with a booming kick drum that immediately immerses listeners. A parade of cymbals, hi-hats and a rapid snare drum punctuate the melody, which is heavily distorted synth notes. The lingering baseline slowly wobbles and shakes, creating an air of unpredictability, in classic Castellani style, builds the mood with subtle elements. After an emotive crescendo, the melody pivots to a trippy acidic overflow that dominates the track before a solitary kick drum closes out.

Matrixxman then performs a remix of the title track. He transforms it into an ethereal, futuristic piece that incorporates animalistic sounds as well as a reverberating kick. He seamlessly transforms the original into something wild and eccentric, far more sinister than anything else on the album. Gentle chords gradually creep into view, but never overshadow the main melody. The bass drum takes center stage, with snapping snares and hi-hats providing texture and balance. The American producer adds a dark atmosphere to the track with a menacingly ominous remix.

Acid Test Microdose Mix‘ opens with a bouncy 303, a solid kick, and distant shakers dancing beneath the growing acid line. A weighted punch is delivered by slick claps and extra acid twinged elements dancing around the vigorous kick drum. While the differences from the Macrodose mix are subtle, they are no less effective – this is a more stripped-back, considered version. The powerful kick drum and a variety of rolling percussion that allow the melody to flow characterize this lean 303 workout.

Acid Test Macrodose Mix ” opens with a sole 303 acid line, loop of keys, and a pulsating kick drum that pushes the tempo along. The bass drum is used sparingly in the track, allowing the track’s minimal elements to shine before exploding with unbridled power. The acid line distorts and twists throughout with weaving countermelodies, making this edit a disorientating cut armed with squelches, snares, and hi-hats that burst around you.
