Youth Control, an independent Finnish dance label, returns with another immersive dance. Smok, the powerful producer, delivers an enthralling new track ‘Desire‘ starring the amazing UK-based singer/songwriter SOPHIE MARIE. The release follows the historic 50th release, which saw longtime label favorite Rony Rex celebrate a decade of his musical career with his ’10’ compilation.

From start to finish, ‘Desire‘ revolves around an immersive sonic bed of afro-tinged percussion and powerful drum grooves. It also features expansively resonant synths, smooth strings, and progressive layers of complementing musicianship. ‘Desire,’ a mix brimming with movement and harmony. It comes together with a seductive vocal topline delivered masterfully by SOPHIE MARIE.
Making Desire was a long process but the time I spent honing it was worthwhile and I’m really happy how it turned out and I’m honored I got to work with SOPHIE MARIE as her vocals perfectly highlights the essence of Desire and its vibe. – Smok
Who’s Smok? The artist
Smok is from Oulu, Finland, and is also known as Juha Moisala. His DJ debut on the local club circuit was in 2002. He has since become a fixture in Northern Finland’s deep house music culture. His journey from clubgoer to DJ to music producer has been a gradual one in which he has honed his aural and production skills.
Smok’s preference for deep house can be heard on a variety of labels. It includes the well-received tracks ‘Dance Tonight’ on unquantize (DJ Spen remix) and ‘Helix’ on Atjazz, as well as others on Viva, Phat Elephant, Salted Music, and Youth Control.
Smok’s songs have also appeared on compilations like Toolroom’s Ibiza 2019, Deep House, and Poolside Croatia 2016. Keep an eye on this understated artist as he rises through the deep house scene.
