DJ Mag’s documentary, “Top 100 DJs: The World’s Biggest Music Poll,” commemorates the 30th anniversary of the renowned poll. Featuring electronic music icons, it traces the poll’s evolution. From a mail-in vote to a global phenomenon, capturing the essence of dance music history.

DJ Mag has released a brand-new full-length documentary called Top 100 DJs: The World’s Biggest Music Poll. The documentary marks the 30th anniversary of the Top 100 DJs.

The documentary features some of the most famous artists in electronic music talking about the Top 100 DJ Mag. The 100 best DJs: The World’s Biggest Music Poll tells the story of the poll’s rise from its humble start as a mail-in vote in the 1990s to the worldwide phenomenon it is now.

The documentary talks with artists who have been important to the Top 100 DJs poll for 30 years. Many well-known DJs and producers are on this list, such as Armin van Buuren, DJ Paulette, David Morales, Fatboy Slim, Arielle Free, ALOK, Sonique, Don Diablo, Hardwell, Sister Bliss, Sarah Story, Paul van Dyk, John Digweed, Mariana Bo, and many more.

Although the project started as a way of celebrating the Top 100 DJs’ 30th anniversary, it quickly became an insight into dance music history, looking into how electronic music has evolved over the last three decades alongside the poll. – DJ Mag’s head of video, and the film’s director Liam Smith

In the past, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas, and Like Mike have been crowned #1 DJs in the world. In the past few years, DJ Mag has expanded with several new charts including underground and alternative artists.

According to Simon Kelly, Operations Director of DJ Mag, the Top 100 DJs list has grown a lot over the past 30 years. It started out as an editorially chosen list to celebrate the publication’s 100th issue. It is now the official global snapshot of how popular DJs are around the world.

To mark the 30th anniversary of Top 100 DJs, we wanted to capture this trajectory — in an honest and open way — alongside the sounds, scenes and artists the poll has reflected along the way. The team have worked tirelessly to bring this — our first long-form DJ Mag Original documentary — to fruition and we’re incredibly excited to put this out into the world.
