Liverpool duo Matrefakt debut on Peggy Gou’s Gudu

Follows 2023 Gudu releases by Special Request & Novelist, Matisa, Mogwaa, DMX Krew and more

Matrefakt, a duo based in Liverpool, have made their debut on Peggy Gou‘s Gudu Records with a four-track EP that is loaded with tracks that are guaranteed to get people moving on the dance floor.

Matrefakt lands on Peggy Gou’s Gudu with Charge

Their first extended play (EP) for Gudu is the definition of making the most out of a limited resource. Samples are frequently looped across one or two bars, but Matrefakt know how to use them for maximum effect. They build up tension with chopped vocals or looped bubbles and beeps over raw, loose, and chunky drum patterns — just the way we like it.

After Peggy had included several Matrefakt tracks in her performances for more than a year, the two finally performed together for the first time at Creamfields during the summer of 2017, and an EP was a natural outgrowth of that performance.

Matrefakt completely understands how to produce successful dance recordings by keeping in mind the sublime late-night experiences that inspire them. If you haven’t heard of them before, their song “Dimension” is a fantastic place to start getting acquainted with them.

Matrefakt

The past half-decade has seen Matrefakt release a steady stream of high-quality dance records with minimal fuss, and the support speaks for itself: Peggy Gou, Skream, Patrick Topping, Anja Schneider, DJ Boring, Richie Ahmed, Sally C, Sarah Story — the list goes on, and when you listen to their music, it comes as no surprise that they have quickly risen to the top of the dance music scene. They are also regulars at their city’s famous Circus parties, and over the past two years they have played significant sets at festivals like as Creamfields, Hideout, Watergate, and more.

Peggy Gou’s Gudu

It is a continuation of Gudu’s successful 2023, which has already seen releases from Special Request & Novelist, Mogwaa, Matisa, and DMX Krew, as well as the first installment of Gudu & Friends, a new annual compilation series that has added Salamanda, Closet Yi, Lady Blacktronika, and other artists to the label’s roster. The year 2023 is shaping up to be one for the record books, since numerous more artists have releases scheduled for later in the year.

On September 27, ‘Dimension‘ will be made available for purchase through Gudu Records. The debut single from the EP, titled “Charge,” is currently available to stream virtually everywhere.
