Tongue, a brand-new four-track EP from Italian musician Matisa for Peggy Gou‘s Gudu label, was released today. The main song, also called “Tongue,” was released on July 18.

Born in Rome but now residing in Florence, Matisa has emerged as one of dance music’s most talked-about rising stars. She has released music on some of the circuit’s most highly regarded labels, such as Optimo Music, Steel City Dance Discs, On Loop, and Permanent Vacation, and has received support from DJs like Ben UFO, Peach, Shanti Celeste, Eris Drew, Sally C, Mall Grab, and others.

With four songs that range from sun-drenched piano house to mid-tempo breaks and a narrative flow that encourages listening to it as a whole EP rather than picking individual tracks, Tongue shows off Matisa’s full range as an artist, making it possibly her most comprehensive release to date and a genuine demonstration of what makes her such a special talent.

This EP is a musical journey. I wanted each track to represent a stage of this journey, from departure to take-off, peak time and closing. I went deep into what the journey is for me and my ambition to make it all come alive with my very first vocal, and felt Tongue was the track to explore this expression.

This EP is a really special one for me. I tried to put everything into it”, she continues. “‘Brunela’ is dedicated to my Father, ‘Lusia’ to my Mother; ‘Sunrose’ for my love for flowers, and ‘Tongue’ to the feeling of passion and romance. I hope this EP will take listeners on this beautiful journey, just as it did for me when creating it. – Matisa

It continues a stellar year for Gudu that has already seen releases from Special Request & Novelist, Mogwaa, and DMX Krew as well as the debut of Gudu & Friends, a brand-new annual compilation series that added Salamanda, Closet Yi, Lady Blacktronika, and more to the label roster. 2023 should be a memorable year with Matisa currently active and a number of other artists having releases scheduled for later in the year.

On August 3, Matisa’s ‘Tongue‘ EP will be released by Gudu Records; the first single is currently available for streaming everywhere. On August 6, Matisa will perform at the Pleasure Gardens festival with Special Request, DMX Krew, Dukwa, Hiver, and Peggy Gou.
