Fred Again releases new song ‘Mike (Desert Island Duvet)’

Following his record-breaking sold-out performance at Madison Square Garden last month alongside Skrillex and Four Tet, Fred Again.. today releases Mike (desert island duvet), a club-reworking of Berwyn (all I got is you) – a track from his latest Actual Life 3 album – now featuring a verse from The Streets’ Mike Skinner accompanied by original vocalist Dermot Kennedy. Also, it was revealed today that Fred would perform at this year’s Glastonbury Festival; more information can be found at glastonburyfestivals.co.uk.

Mike (desert island duvet)’ was the result of a blossoming friendship between Fred and Mike that kickstarted when he came out as a guest vocalist during Fred’s packed-out set at All Points East in the summer of 2022. The resulting duet is a nostalgic take on the original music that seems firmly tied into the zeitgeist as two trailblazing artists of their own generations.

With the publication of Actual Life 3, Fred completed the trilogy of his wildly popular Actual Life album series (January 1 – September 9 2022). Building on the model established by his debut album Actual Life (February 2 – July 19th) and its follow-up Actual Life 2 (February 2 – October 15 2021), Actual Life 3 saw Fred.. resume his diary-like approach to production using intimate use of voice notes from friends, videos found while scrolling on Instagram, and samples from significant records in his life.

It was a piece of autobiographical work that advanced the history of UK electronic music while demonstrating the ability of music to catharsize, heal, and celebrate the truths of friendship, love, and life.

The record, which opened at #4 in the UK album charts and became the highest-streaming new release globally on Spotify on its first weekend, was crucial to his success as a global artist. Almost immediately selling out of vinyl copies upon release, the album will be made available as a repress on March 31st.

The prolific London artist has quickly established himself as one of the most talked-about live performers after for the first time transforming his Actual Life albums into a shared, immersive live experience. He was awarded one of Mixmag’s “Best 10 Live Acts Of 2022” for the second consecutive year after his performances sold out across the UK and the USA, including three consecutive sold-out nights at London’s Brixton Academy in December. With the release of his Boiler Room, which has received over 15 million plays to date and has surpassed the numbers witnessed by artists like Disclosure, Richie Hawtin, Skream, and Fatboy Slim in just 4 weeks, Fred maintained his upward trajectory.
