Finally, after months of teasing, Afterlife presents Hold Me To The Light, the debut EP for the French duo Kas:st.
Afterlife fans surely remember Hold Me To The Light as it has been played massively by Tale Of Us in their recent sets. The EP features four incredible tunes, three original and one remix by the label bosses. Kicking off with the title track, Hold Me To The Light moves slowly thanks to the delicate vocal and the rising arpeggio. More than 8 minutes of pure melodic madness with a big and smooth beat. The original is arranged to journey through downtempo, piano and vocoder sections as well as a powerful peak.
Tale Of Us rapidly take the chance to remix such an incredible gem; Hold Me To The Light remix by the Italian duo is more monumental thanks to the injection of epic crescendo and a mystical climax. The vocal breakdown, subtle progressions, and monumental sound design is the perfect complement to Kas:st’s own masterpiece. The remix is a complete journey through hard techno, softer house music and a cinematic theme, everything mixed with the iconic Tale Of Us’ sound.
Again, monumental and epic melodic lines are the key points of the next two records of the EP. On the record’s B-side, The Hymn Of Fallen Dreams switches the title-track’s lyrics for a more
understated, ghostly lead line whilst retaining its extended form. An incredibly clean and well-defined piano melody follows the baseline and the arpeggio creating a mystical feeling around the tune. Wide and raw synths introduce a hypnotic beat that moves all along the tune.
Closing record Be Yourself is the most direct of the four with a groove and deep pulse primed for the peak-hours. Again, a rollercoaster of vibes and beat, from fast percussions to slow and cinematic themes. The vocal follows the hypnotic lines that rapidly jump into a deep and dark beat.
