Berlin-based DJ and producer Torsten Kanzler returns on Kuukou Records with a 2-track EP, Bulli which includes a remix of Simina Grigoriu as well.
Torsten Kanzler, a Berlin-based producer who has appeared amongst VAs and with his own solo EP back in 2020, has been a stalwart member of the label’s fluorescence. Torsten’s masterful approach to production and blending of hardware and software instruments creates a truly unique strand of techno that has always fit him comfortably within the Kuukou milieu: his work packs punches while also possessing a warmth that makes it as kinetic as it is emotive.
His Bulli EP embodies these qualities and is an armored set of club tracks guaranteed to shake the floor’s foundations. Over a heaving, subby kick, the title track sets an off-kilter major/minor synth line gamboling. As the tension builds, reverb, delay, and mangled filters are gently adjusted to create a sense of space. Moving between realities, the EP continues with Simina Grigoriu remix. The title track has been made faster and harder, with darker and more industrial elements. The main theme has evolved to match these new vibes. Raw instruments and dark lines are packed in the record including non-stop percussions and out-of-this-world arpeggios.
On the B-side, Afuche Cabasa brings dreamy and romantic lines to the EP. The environmental sounds, packed with hard but clean beats and minimal rolling percussions create a sense of well-being and calmness.
