As part of our 30 Years of Vicious celebrations, the label is happy to welcome Toolroom Records CEO Mark Knight to remixing duty for the second time.
Since the beginning of Beatport and Traxsource charts, Mark’s distinct house music sound has been a mainstay, not to mention on vinyl before the advent of digital music. One of the most well-known DJs and producers in the world, Mark here gives the massive Avicii & Sebastien Drums hit his own spin.
It’s a big deal getting to remix Avicii. He’s without doubt one of the most talented producers we’ve ever seen – a modern day genius who was taken from us far too soon. I wanted to keep my remix sympathetic to the original while also putting my own stamp on it, so I took it back a little closer to the vibe of the Gwen McCrae source material – loosening things up a little and giving it a bit more of a disco flavour. I was honoured to be asked and I hope people connect with the results. – Mark Knight
The formula for success, in this case, is a strong, funk-fueled house vibe. With all of the original hooks seamlessly blending with Mark’s distinctive trademark groove, and a super slick arrangement that emphasizes the theme. As the song starts to pick up speed and fire with an energy that will uplift any crowd, the full vocal teases. The cheeky, perfectly placed Pete Tong sample paying homage to Avicii’s legacy adds to the track’s enduring emotion. Mark’s monumental remix is brilliant on many levels and will stand out in DJ sets right away.
He gave it his all and created an incredible rendition that, without a doubt, will ignite dance floors everywhere and does the original club anthem justice.
