London Printworks returns in… Barcelona?

Printworks announce collaboration with Sónar Festival for its 31st edition in Barcelona

Yeah heard it right. Printworks is back. But it’s not how you imagine it. The iconic London venue lands in sunny Spain during the Sónar Festival.

Printworks will team up with Sónar Festival for Sónar by Night. A brand-new stage on June 14th and 15th will be part of the festival. This is a partnership between two major names in electronic music.

The goal is to explore the identities of both music brands. For the first time, these two huge names in music will work symbiotically. The project will explore both their audio and visual styles. It will surely be a challenging and interesting meeting.

The Sónar festival has a long history on its schulder. It is known around the world for constantly creating, innovating, and pushing the limits of musical exploration for over 30 years.

The SonarLab X Printworks stage is an important next step in Sónar’s ongoing mission to platform quality innovations in electronic music and culture from around the world. We’ve long admired Broadwick Live’s attention to detail both in audiovisual production and curation with Printworks, and this collaboration allows us to bring the best of both worlds to the Sónar by Night audience. – Ventura Barba – Advanced Music (Sónar)

The collaboration with SonarLab and Printworks

Printworks has worked hard to create an experience for the audience that combines the best in production, lighting, and audiovisual features in a way that no other venue has done. They have built a cult group that goes far beyond the venue.

Together, they will bring the venue’s spirit to Spain for the first time. It will feature a brand-new style that shows off Printworks’ famous sound, lighting design, and art selection.

Live sets by Octave One and American producer Sepehr are included in the lineup. Sets by modern trance star KI/KI, master of German deep house Cinthie, and mysterious British rap and grime artist CASISDEAD are on the lineup too. Artists for the Printworks x Sónar collaboration include Dr. Flight and MC Chickaboo, the well-known house producer Salute, Marie Montexier b2b Mor Elian, C.FRIM b2b BAMBII, as well as a sophisticated set from JASSS, Swoose, a resident of Printworks, and DJ TNTC from Jokkoo Collective.

We asked Matthew Johnston, a member of the Broadwick Live team, the minds behind Printworks, about this first-timer in Barcelona:

For Printworks first adventure in Spain, we wanted to do something special and make a statement. Sónar Festival is an event that we have long respected for their continuous commitment to experience-led shows, a core value of the Printworks and Broadwick Live ethos. We are looking forward to this first collaboration, and being able to recreate the spirit of the space whilst it undergoes redevelopment

Sónar 2024 | Final lineup released

Printworks will return to London with its original design, including the Press Halls

When Broadwick opened Printworks London for the first time in February 2017, it immediately went viral. The venue quickly became known for putting on some of the most innovative cultural shows in the UK and Europe at the time. The building used to be the biggest printing plant in Western Europe. The huge machines and printing presses were kept in their original form. This created a beautiful, industrial setting for the award-winning music program and set pieces.

Broadwick is currently working on the next phase of Printworks. The area is under redevelopment. Printworks London will return with many of its most important features, such as the famous Press Halls, still in place.

The creator of Printworks last year presented a new venue, DRUMSHEDS.

The SonarLab x Printworks stage is an important part of the Sónar 2024 event as a whole. Its purpose is to showcase creativity in digital culture from all times and fields. Sónar wants to have formats that push the limits and be a stage for hyperlocal promoters and collectives from around the world. It will have dance music pioneers, modern icons, and groundbreaking techno acts, as well as a renewed focus on radical aesthetics.

The collaboration between Printworks and Sónar Festival marks a pioneering partnership in electronic music, merging their distinct audiovisual styles. It introduces Printworks’ renowned production and curation to Sónar’s platform, promising an innovative experience for audiences, uniting two major forces in the electronic music scene.
