[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Today is no ordinary day. Today decrees the end of six years long journey. A journey that involved several people, and which led to the release of the most eagerly awaited track in Axtone Records history.
Today is ‘Make Your Mind Up’ day. The long-awaited Pauls Paris, NEW_ID and Axwell‘s track is out now.
After this William-Wallace-ish intro, let’s just say that we are extremely pleased to provide you an interview with one of the guys who bring this track back to life: Devi Van Der Horst aka NEW_ID.

Who got the idea of bringing this track back to life?” open=”true”]I’m totally with you guys, finally it will see the light of day! I remember Ax sent me the parts in 2014, asking if I could try to make the original song ‘work’. The vocal had an amazing vibe but the production wouldn’t stand up when played on the big stages. For Ax and myself, it was important that what we made could do the damage at prime time… this was the hardest part.
The first try I did back in 2014, I couldn’t get it to work so I laid it down for some time. Last year in December I was struggling with writers block, I had just finished two singles but due to some bad luck the songs were never released… It got me down and I totally lost the vibe in the studio. So I tried to get myself back in the zone and found those stems again and I thought; ‘why not give it another try?’… and that was the start of bringing ‘Make Your Mind Up’ back to life![/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_toggle title=”Tell us about the remixing process: I suppose that remixing an instant classic like that (even if unreleased) must be intimidating? ” open=”true”]Yeah, it was really difficult, I think the hardest part was keeping the original vibe intact, trying to preserve the emotion, but getting it to work on the dance floor as well. Ax is playing festivals week in week out, so it needs to work in that environment too – not just the club/pool party vibe.[/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_toggle title=”How working with Axwell is?” open=”true”]Always super inspiring. I’m always adding plugins and laying more stuff in the mix whereas Ax is the opposite; trying to make it work with only the right elements. Safe to say, many lessons learnt!
[/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_toggle title=”I had an interview with First Day some time ago; he said that you guys collaborate often. Are you cooking something special?” open=”true”]We have the ‘Lovestruck ID’ together, it’s one of my biggest tracks and in my sets it goes down well but we need a vocal! Also soundwise we are trying to bring it up to date. I hope it will see the daylight soon and we will do our best to make sure no one is waiting 6 years for it haha.
But I and First Day are always sharing our ideas, he is really my best studio buddy. It’s hard to get honest feedback and Alessio never hesitates to let me know when something isn’t working. It’s not like a ‘yeah it’s cool’, he always brings constructive criticism. He was the first one that heard my idea for Make Your Mind Up and he had some great ideas for it as well. Because of that he is now also remixing it for Axtone so I’m stoked for him!
[/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_toggle title=”It’s been a busy summer for you with a string of festivals and club gigs, including Tomorrowland and the Axtone Asia Tour. How would you describe these particular dates?” open=”true”]Tomorrowland was truly epic, for me personally one of my best. I had an early slot but I saw that there were a lot of fans that came early to see me, then I played afterward at the Jupiter stage and I saw the same faces – shout out to those guys, it was so cool to share such an intimate moment together. It was really intense for me because I worked really hard to get all the new stuff to work and hardly slept the week before Tomorrowland. Then playing all the new stuff for the first time and seeing Axwell premiering ‘Make Your Mind Up’ on a packed out Axtone stage for 10.000 die-hard fans, man – goosebumps!
The Axtone Asia tour is going super well. I see finally that we are in a good time for the groove sound. EDM kids growing up and love a bit more sophisticated groove train house tracks, it’s great to see. Tracks like ADA for example, that’s now more than a year old I feel works now even better than a year ago, crazy. Asia is really vibing to it!
[/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_toggle title=”You’re an Axtone Records stalwart, can you describe how the label has evolved throughout the years?” open=”true”]They are always trying to push boundaries, it doesn’t matter in which genres, but the label never lose its own identity, that’s the quality of Axtone I feel. Sometimes you think “huh this on Axtone”? But that’s the key, always try to keep it fresh. I think because of the Axtone parties now the brand is getting bigger and bigger. People can now truly experience the Axtone vibe at the club and not just playing their favourite tracks at home![/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_toggle title=”Is that “Stay With Me Now” ID that you played at Tomorrowland yours? Sounds very radio-oriented, is this a path that you would like to follow?” open=”true”]You guys are good internet detectives haha! It was a secret but I see a lot of people talking about it so why not giving some info. It’s my track with my little brother Josha on the vocals. I really love his voice and I always wanted to do something with him. We have such a great vibe together and how amazing it is if you can make music together. He has his own band called Silent War and he is a really good guitar player as well. Maybe you guys heard the guitars on ADA? That was him!
This is the first track we did together, it’s not that I choose this path or only want to make radio friendly records from now on, it just came together like this and if it feels good it feels good. I will make a club version as well. It’s something different from what I normally do but that’s what I like, expect the unexpected…
Thanks for the great questions and the continued support guys![/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
