Axwell’s imprint, Axtone, welcomes back D.O.D with his ‘According To Me’.
We’re sure the melody is not new to you; the new D.O.D single ‘According To Me’ takes as a sample the iconic Samim’s 2007 single ‘Heater’, building around it a new tune.
D.O.D takes the original sample, injecting an addictive vocal, a good dose of groovy and Latino-inspired vibes. Unfortunately, this mix of elements did not lead to the desired effects, especially on the Axtone fan base. There is a clear division of opinions from those who consider it “like an old school Axtone” to the exact opposite; “a low effort revamp of an old song“.
For sure, ‘According To Me’ doesn’t sound like the future-jack sound we’re used to hearing from D.O.D, but it’s also true that this specific melody over the years has been overused. The last attempt to rework it was done by Alex Guesta on SPRS in 2016 with ‘Cumbia Cienaguera’.
