Cassian Unveils Remake of ICEHOUSE’s ‘Great Southern Land’

The long-awaited remake of ICEHOUSE's "Great Southern Land" by Cassian is finally here, and it was released today on RÜFÜS DU SOL's Rose Avenue Records imprint.

Cassian has finally released his long-awaited version of the cherished song “Great Southern Land” by the Australian band ICEHOUSE.

Cassian gives the music, which was originally released in the 1980s and once shook all of Australia, a fresh lease on life by employing his unique style of production, which fuses melodic house and techno.

This new version from Cassian, which has served as a significant point in his live sets over the course of the past year, has been published via the esteemed label Rose Avenue Records, which is owned and operated by RÜFÜS DU SOL.

Cassian’s New Take Of ICEHOUSE’s ‘Great Southern Land

After its initial release in 1982, ICEHOUSE‘s “Great Southern Land” quickly established itself as an important part of popular culture in Australia. As a direct result of its enormous popularity, it was given official distribution in both North America and Europe, thereby disseminating the music of the Australian new wave scene around the globe.

Cassian now gives the track another tour over the airwaves in 2023, this time taking it to some of the largest events in the world, such as Coachella, Printworks, and more. After getting the blessing of ICEHOUSE maestro Iva Davies, Cassian now gives the music another tour via the airwaves.

As an Australian, I was born with this song in my blood. I dreamed about making my own version for 10 years before reaching out to see if it was possible. Having full approval from Iva Davies/ICEHOUSE and being involved with the legacy of this song is probably the greatest honor of my career thus far, one that I don’t take lightly.

After I was given the stems, I spent the past year slowly, carefully & respectfully piecing it together. Around 100 versions later I’m proud to present the final, which I even mastered myself. Huge thank you to management, to Simon Moor & of course to Iva and his team for making the impossible possible. – Cassian

Cassian is a Grammy Award–winning artist who has established himself as one of the most versatile artists to come from Sydney’s growing electronic scene. He is an adept producer, DJ, and mixing engineer, and he has solidified his name as a household name.

In 2018, Cassian was the first artist to sign with RÜFÜS DU SOL’s imprint Rose Avenue. Since then, he has followed up his debut with many releases that have topped the Beatport charts. One example of this is the remix he did of Jimi Jules’ “My City’s On Fire” alongside Tale Of Us’s Anyma.

Cassian is an accomplished and seasoned performer who has played in front of tens of thousands of people while also selling out headline gigs at New York City’s Superior Ingredients, commanding festival sets at Coachella, and making an epic homecoming visit to play at Sydney’s historic harbor after the pandemic.

ICEHOUSE

Iva Davies, a musician from Australia, established the band ICEHOUSE in the 1970s. Initially going by the name Flowers, Davies changed the band’s moniker shortly thereafter. The band was first successful with its performances of pub rock until it achieved mainstream fame in the 1980s with its performances of new-wave and synth-pop.

ICEHOUSE’s songs “Electric Blue” and “Crazy” would soon become Top 10 singles in both Europe and the United States, respectively. Even after being inducted into the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Hall of Fame in 2006, ICEHOUSE is still considered to be one of the most revered bands in the nation.

It is a track that he holds near to his heart, and Cassian’s rework of ‘Great Southern Land’ is a love letter to Australia. This track is sure to be played across all of Cassian’s shows this Summer.
